Computer Tools

In this century clinicians will need to develop some working knowledge of computer software and operations in order to do their jobs. I have list links here to a variety of FREE software tools that could help you in your efforts to cope.

Many freeware sites offer “professional” versions to generate income or ask for a contribution. If you like the software I encourage you to upgrade or to leave a tip as it helps keep the products “free”.

  1. Open Office - This is a suite of programs essentially like MicroSoft Office and can open and edit materials created with that program. It includes programs like:
    • Word
    • Access
    • PowerPoint
    • Etc.
  2. AVG - AVG Free provides you with basic antivirus and antispyware protection for Windows and is available to download for free. I use it on my Netbook because it is a small file compared to Norton or McAfee anti virus programs.
  3. Everyday Auto Backup - Everyday Auto Backup is an easy-to-use software designed to backup files automatically. You can configure the back up of files in various directories or drives at varied times.
  4. CCleaner - CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space.
  5. Paint.Net - Everyone needs a software program that allows you to do some digital graphics work. I use an old version of Paint Shop I’ve had for years but I have tried PaintNet and it is excellent.
  6. More to come
